Choosing a life in the creative industries is a defiant act. Sunrise Orca was founded by attorney, advocate, and educator Mericia Palma Elmore, after years of watching brilliant creators give their work away, or worse, never share their creations with the world simply because no one clued them into the rules of the game.

Trained as a lawyer and librarian, she has spent her career translating legal frameworks into digestible bits of knowledge. Mericia built Sunrise Orca to put industry literacy directly into creatives' hands and build a strong, empowered, resilient creative community.

The name draws on the orca: a matriarchal, fiercely protective creature that leads with wisdom passed down through generations. That is the spirit behind every book and curriculum package we build. We are resourceful, protective, and uncompromisingly devoted to the people who make the art, tell the stories, and build the worlds the rest of us live in.
